Tara Dugan lives in Massachusetts. After earning an associate’s at Mount Wachusett Community College, she attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she studied comparative literature and Latin while earning a letter of specialization in the study and practice of writing. She was the first submissions editor of UMass Amherst’s on-campus journal Paperbark Literary Magazine. Her love of books has led her to internships at Folio Literary Management, Linda Roghaar Literary Agency, the University of Massachusetts Press, and Chelsea Green Publishing. She has since found a home among university presses, working at the University Press of Kentucky and Princeton University Press.

Coffee more than tea. Lover of etymologies and obscurities. Collector of books more than a reader of them. In a long-term relationship with a chronic illness. Thrown from a horse twice. At some point memorized “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” in its entirety, which, like falling off a horse, inexplicably did not make her cool. Among her proudest moments to date was coming in second place in a children’s poetry contest with a searing, transcendent elegy of the human condition, “Ouch.” Occasionally lapses into third-person descriptions of herself. Like her writing, perpetually unfinished.
